Summary:
The Global program/compound leader reports to the VP, Project Leadership. He/she is accountable to the chair of the governance committees responsible for the compounds (IIEC/ IIDC). He/she is responsible for leading the development strategy of the program/compound and for executing the strategy.
The role and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead the development and execution of a Celgene I&I program/compound development/Life Cycle strategy
- Responsible for creating the overall program/compound’s development/life Cycle strategy
- Lead program/project team(s) to develop integrated cross-functional program/compound implementation plan based on the governance committee approved development/life cycle strategy
- Accountable for timely, cost effective and high quality execution of governance committee approved program, including program’s budget, timelines and resource allocation to achieve program’s goals
- Provide a continuously updated and balanced appraisal of the program/compound status, including risk, cost, and value to stakeholders
- Responsible for alignment of functional execution plans with approved project plans
- Primary interface with project governance bodies and responsible for implementing decisions
- Ensure alignment between the program/compound strategy and tactical execution
- Assure coherence between the global project plan (timeline, resource allocation, Target Product Profile) and corporate and line management objectives
- Ensure team focus and accountability to achieve team goals
- Monitor program progress and develop corrective actions if deviations occur
- Ensure that all Global Core Program/Compound Team members understand project goals and objectives, current project plan and schedule, critical path activities and activities that may become critical path activities
- Work closely with all program/project team members to assure close follow-up on execution and proactive evaluation and resolution of potential risks and challenges
- Make program/compound decisions within the scope approved by the development committee and portfolio committee
- Partner with line function management to assure delivery of goals and escalate issues to appropriate governance committee if needed
- Manage project manager(s) working on his/her projects
- Seek and develop high performance team and individual behaviors (Challenge, motivate, reward), including development of team members.
- Monitor and ensure effective communication between team members, his/her functional lines, functional teams, geographies and governance bodies
- Lead, challenge and motivate the Product Development Team
- Provide input into individual development plans and performance evaluation of team member(s)
- Provide input to the development of corporate goals
Skills/Knowledge/Competencies Required:
- Result oriented individual to develop and execute optimal strategy and meet corporate objectives
- Experience in a development/functional team leader role in Drug research and development
- Extensive experience with planning and execution of strategies for drug product registration and commercialization/life cycle management
- In-depth knowledge of all phases of drug development, of the functions and processes relevant to drug development, and project management principles applicable to the biopharmaceutical environment
- Experience in more than one functional area is a plus, i.e. clinical and regulatory affairs to assure broad understanding of the pharmaceutical development
- Experience directly managing program/compound development/life cycle teams is a plus
- Demonstrated strategic and leadership skills
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Demonstrated ability to effectively develop, communicate, and gain support for execution plans with a wide range of stakeholders
- Able to motivate and develop individual team members and overall team performance
- Broad understanding of strategic business objectives
- Significant line and matrix management experience
- Knowledge in relevant therapeutic areas ( I&I or early development), and about most relevant functional areas to be able to effectively challenge line and team output

Qualifications
- BS or MS or MS/MBA in a scientific discipline with 12 years or MD/ PhD with 7 years of relevant job experience (pharmaceutical / biotechnology)
