Buyer/Planner

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Reviews MRP requirements and available reports to determine material supply needs, and takes appropriate actions to meet those needs (Placing Purchase Orders, Scheduling Delivery Dates, Creating and Releasing Process Orders) Maintains Item Master and Bill of Materials integrity in the MRP system. 
  • Monitor product life cycles and alerts the appropriate team members to any actionable inventory needs. 
  • Conduct investigations and root cause analysis on any supply disruptions or material quality issues and report out on corrective actions. 
  • Identifies, escalates, and resolves material shortages before they affect production. 
  • Manage vendor review process to communicate business results and vendor performance. 
  • Facilitates return of merchandise to supplier due to quality issues, delivery terms, etc. 
  • Administers Production Scheduling process, facilitates scheduling meeting and ensures Shop Orders support Production Schedule. 
  • Researches potential suppliers and negotiates all service contracts (e.g., housekeeping, waste removal, office equipment and uniforms). 
  • Leads and participates in cross-functional teams/activities to improve systems or performances (e.g., cycle counts, training and manual inventory of Production supplies). 
  • Takes action in support of new product launches and/or special projects (e.g., participates in planning meeting and readjusts purchasing plans, ensures specifications are in place and approved by supplier). 
  • Oversees non-MRP purchasing activities including negotiating contracts with vendors and processing all purchasing orders and deliveries. 
  • Maintains system planning parameters (e.g., lot size, lead time and safety stocks) and performs tracking through the material control checklist. 
  • Analyzes functional activities and processes and recommends actions for continuous improvement and cost effectiveness (e.g., revisions to a SOP, documentation of a materials procedure, enhance internal demand requirement procedure to assure proper notification to internal staff). 
  • Performs other duties, ad hoc analyses, and special projects as assigned by manager from time to time.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

  • 3 years experience as a purchasing/planning professional 
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Management/Business Administration or a related field with two to four years relative experience. 
  • Prefer experience with enterprise ERP systems, SAP and Oracle specifically. 
  • Must be able to present data and analyses in an organized, clear, and concise manner. 
  • Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. 
  • MS Excel knowledge is a must. 
  • SAP/Oracle/Track-wise/PeopleSoft experienced preferred. 
  • APICS (American Production and Inventory Control Society) or ISM (Institute for Supply Management) certification preferred. 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
