The company is seeking a Chief Technical Officer (CTO) with a unique skillset that aligns with a broad business portfolio. This executive will be an innovative and dynamic leader with excellent leadership and communication skills, who can drive a cohesive technology strategy that includes: a complex global enterprise network operation, product innovation and general alignment and support of Paul G. Allen’s objectives across a diverse set of interests and endeavors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work collaboratively with business leaders and key constituents across all of company’s business ventures, to present a cohesive technology and innovative product strategy and roadmap to ensure effective integration of multiple, complex technology environments.
- Deliver exceptional technical solutions and world-class service across a diverse infrastructure including aircraft, yachts, and remote global locations.
- Lead the technology solutions across the organization including philanthropic endeavors that require a unique and innovative technological solution.
- Manage, attract, and retain world-class talent by creating an innovative and challenging environment.
- Lead the organization in the acquisition, migration and/or development of new systems and software technology & tools. Ensure effective upgrades with no compromise to service, while improving quality of the users’ experiences.
- Drive and facilitate the product strategy and planning process across the organization to provide focus and alignment on critical strategies to develop and execute a set of worldwide integrated technology solutions.
- Provide cost effective management, rationalization and simplification of the company’s portfolio of systems and projects. Establish and enforce technology policies, best practices, processes, systems and portfolio and lifecycle management, program and project management, development standards, methodologies and the like.
- Work with engineers and other departments to develop innovative solutions that meet the business’s needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to development goals and principles.
- Develop a strong understanding of customer needs and establishing operational standards that exceed end user satisfaction.
- Serve as a sounding board and trusted technological advisor to company senior leadership and Affiliates, as appropriate

Knowledge, experience, skill, and/or ability
The CTO will demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, integrity, dedication, a high-level of energy, excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal and relationship building and management capabilities. Critical thinking, creative problem-solving and decision-making skills are also required.
This executive will have ample technical skills, strategic vision, tactical competencies and pragmatic acumen to work with senior leadership teams to develop and execute against an overarching technical strategy and roadmap. The CTO should be highly motivated to succeed and empower his/her team to do so, in an approachable manner that engenders trust and confidence at all levels of the organization.
Required
- 15+ years of technology management experience in complex environments with a history of excellence in technical execution and innovation.
- Thought leadership with confidence and comfort in engaging at both strategic and tactical levels, with a clear, crisp, and concise communication style. He/She will be a strategic technologist: synthesizing technology, customer, strategy and economics; a business leader: able to comprehend what is truly important out of a complex situation; able to create an inspiring technical and strategic vision and communicate it persuasively with both technology and non-technology audiences.
- Demonstrated record of professional experience in innovation and invention, with a clear reputation for motivating teams to deliver unique and differentiating solutions to complex business problems. A record of fostering a clear vision, translating that vision to action, and delivering products and services that deliver measurable business outcomes.
- Proven enthusiasm for working within a diverse, energetic and dynamic environment. Leadership skills and communication skills consistent with proven roles as a trusted, respected thought leader well known for establishing and driving emerging technology initiatives.
- Proven ability to create, communicate and deliver strategic roadmaps and plans.
- Experience assessing and understanding the business and financial tradeoff of buy versus build decisions.
- Strong analytical skills with an ability to put complex ideas into clear frameworks and use data to drive strategic objectives and priorities.
- A hands-on and active leader and mentor, who enjoys face time with their team and who will provide appropriate direction and guidance in the development of the staff; capable of setting clear and measureable expectations.
- A reputation for being a team player with excellent communication skills who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and enjoys intellectual challenges.

Education/experience/certifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from accredited institution and fifteen plus years relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree in computer science, software engineering or information technology is preferred.
