KAHAL: Your Jewish Home Abroad seeks a dynamic and entrepreneurial individual with a passion for program development and Jewish enrichment for the role of Campus Operations Director. This role provides a unique opportunity for an emerging organizational leader to design and implement KAHAL's national growth strategy, working in tandem with KAHAL's Executive Director, International Operations Director, U.S. and international partners, and occasionally the Board of Directors.


This person will be responsible for development of engagement methodologies and various other program inititiaves. This person will also be responsible for maintaining KAHAL's domestic programmatic partnerships. KAHAL is seeking an entrepreneurial individual, able to work independently and consistently reinvent his/her own role.


The Campus Operations Director is critical to KAHAL's growth and to the success of our mission: to create transformational Jewish experiences for study abroad students. The Campus Operations Director reports to the Executive Director and will work with this person to establish specific goals and evaluate progress on an ongoing basis. The position carries with it phenomenal growth and advancement potential.

A robust resource and structured support network, KAHAL works with local communities in more than 30 countries and 60 cities around the world, providing Jewish study abroad students the resources, tools, and personal connections they need to meaningfully engage with local Jewish communities and deepen their connection to the global Jewish people. Since its founding in 2013, KAHAL has connected more than 1500 Jewish students to immersive Jewish experiences during their life-changing time abroad.By incorporating Jewish experiences and choices into this transformative environment, KAHAL measurably increases students' attachment to the global Jewish people and increases the likelihood of their long-term Jewish choices.

KAHAL's offices are located in the heart of downtown Chicago and are easily accessible by public transportation, including CTA and Metra. 


What you’ll bring to the job:

  • Entrepreneurial instincts and interest in human-centered design;
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of relevant professional work experience;
  • Experience facilitating leadership development for young adults;
  • Comfort in managing teams as well as working independently and collaboratively;
  • Accomplished organizational skills related to strategic planning, program oversight, and time management;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders;
  • A serious work ethic, sense of humor, and willingness to take risks and learn from unexpected situations;
  • Willingness to travel and employ flexible hours necessary to complete tasks;
  • A commitment to pluralism and a comfort with your own Jewish identity to act as a role model and mentor for emerging Jewish adults.

What you’ll own and how you’ll grow:


Domestic Partnerships (15%)

  • Manage relationships with important national partners and stakeholders, including Hillel International, Chabad on Campus, AEPi, ZBT, and others;
  • Travel frequently to various campuses and other U.S. and international locations to build partnerships and increase operational efficiency.


Program Design (25%)

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for student engagement, in concert with the International Operations Director and the Executive Director;
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive growth plan, in concert with the International Operations Director and the Executive Director;
  • Consult with domestic and international partners on the development of KAHAL's national growth strategy.


Campus Operations (50%)

  • Manage KAHAL's network of student interns, fellows, and campus representatives;
  • Travel frequently to various campuses and other domestic locations to maintain partnerships and operational efficiency;
  • Travel occasionally to international destinations to coordinate KAHAL's programmatic efforts;
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings with Executive Director and International Operations Director;
  • Participate in regular supervision meetings with the Executive Director;
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, staff learning sessions, and ongoing Jewish learning and professional development opportunities;
  • Maintain current job descriptions and organizational chart and review with Executive Director/all staff on annual basis.


Administrative (5%)

  • Produce and maintain expense budget for campus-related program operations and consult with Executive Director on upkeep of cash flow.


Resource Development (5%)

  • Support the Executive Director in KAHAL's core fundraising activities, including donor relations, strategic fundraising conversations, special events and ocassionally board relations.
  • Attend Chicago-area and national events of interest to KAHAL's stakeholders and potential donors.
  • You will have the opportunity to take as active or passive role in the resource development as desired, but significant opportunity for personal and professional growth exists in this field.
