PRN RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST (Hospital) – (PRN on call, as needed)

POSITION SUMMARY

Operates radiographic equipment to obtain optimum radiographs of designated portions of the body to aid in diagnosis of disease or measure progress of disease.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Graduation from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology.
  2. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and licensed by the Kentucky State Department of Radiation.
  3. CT experience preferred.
  4. Flexibility to work holidays, weekends and on-call duties as needed.
  5. Displays a good understanding of age-related developmental issues of pediatrics and geriatrics.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED

  1. Knowledge of radiographic examinations as well as procedures that require the use of contrast agents.
  2. Knowledge of radiographic equipment operation and radiation safety.
  3. Knowledge of patient transfers and positioning techniques.
  4. Open, accurate, and responsive communication, oral, or written, on an individual basis or in groups.
  5. Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects and meet deadlines.
  6. Demonstration of ethical and professional conduct.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

  1. Capability to be independently mobile.
  2. Ability to manage physically aggressive patients.
  3. Ability to transport patients.
  4. Ability to move portable x-ray machine to examination site.
  5. Ability to move 50 pounds without assistance, reach, stoop, and bend while maintaining a good mechanical body position.
  6. Ability to perform tasks for a long period of time.
  7. Ability to wear protective lead aprons and lead gloves during examinations.
  8. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate radiographic equipment.
  9. Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, read monitors and documents, and hear equipment alarms.
  10. Ability to work within a limited space and in bright and/or low-lighted examination rooms.
  11. Ability to travel locally and elsewhere (including overnight stays) to attend seminars, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards

  5. Subject to injury from moving parts of equipment

  7. Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, illness)
  8. Subject to varying, unpredictable situations
  9. Handles emergency or crisis situations

INTERRELATIONSHIPS REQUIREMENTS

  1. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, patient families, radiology staff, referring physicians, hospital staff, and administration who may or may not be under physical and/or emotional stress.
  2. Frequent interaction with personnel in other departments and with vendors.
  3. Ability to maintain confidential information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The staff technologist is responsible for following established department protocols and providing radiologists with the best possible images for interpretation while maintaining the highest level of patient care and assessment. He or she coordinates the intradepartmental communication to ensure that exams are completed in a timely and efficient manner. The technologist ensures quality of care and the best possible outcome.
